This quote, that has been around for a while, is quite funny:
BSD is what you get when a bunch of Unix hackers sit down to try to port a Unix system to the PC. Linux is what you get when a bunch of PC hackers sit down and try to write a Unix system for the PC.
A quote that may
accurately reflect their beginnings, but does not come anywhere close to touching on the differences in their schools of thought, design philosophies,
communities, development processes, or the current state of things in-general.
Yea
that is a funny quote, reminds me of this website that initially convinced me to try
FreeBSD.

Before stumbling upon this I ran a plethora of Linux systems (mainly
Zenwalk and Fedora). Overall I have had very good experiences with FreeBSD, and it has become my OS of choice.
Anyways, it’s a very good article on some
of the main differences between Linux and the BSDs. It’s about as non-biased as you’re going to get, and I like it most because it goes over the high
level differences and mindsets rather than low level details.
i love PC-BSD
freeBSD in a linux fashion way
a distro, 2 cds, easy to install, freebsd at core,

some apps at choice, installable at initial instalation
pbi packages – one click. install. if instaled. 1 clicks, uninstalls
